12. Slumdog Millionaire. Quote: "When somebody asks me a question, I tell them the answer."

- What an intense movie. Certainly not one for escapism. Life is brutal. It's probably exaggerated but it shows how scummy people can be.
- The most memorable scene of the movie for me is when the grown man blinded the child so he could sing and beg for money.
- It has a happy ending but the price is too high.
- Rewatch? More likely not!
- Recommended? Definitely, yes!

13a. InuYasha the Movie: Affections Across Time (映画犬夜叉 時代を越える想い ,Eiga Inuyasha: Jidai o Koeru Omoi). Quote: "Sit, boy. Sit!"

- I haven't read Inuyasha the manga so I watched this anime without knowing much about it except for the mangaka.
- It's ok. Even though it's only 100 min long, I watched it in 2 installments. I'm not sure if my attention span has shortened lately due to watching too many episodes or something or maybe it's this one in particular.
- I kind of caught the premise and wonder if I want to follow it for 167 episodes or 56 vols. Probably not!

13b. InuYasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass (映画犬夜叉 鏡の中の夢幻城 ,Eiga Inuyasha: Kagami no Naka no Mugenjō)

from Wiki
from IMBd
from Rotten Tomatoes
from Anime News Network

- Same as #1 - it gets to be a bit repetitive - fighting villains - triumphant.
- not much to say.
- I wonder if I like it better if I were more familiar with the series. Probably not.

36. 1 volume of Honey Hunt (ハニーハント ,Haniihanto)

from viz website:
Life's not easy when you're living in the shadow of your famous parents. Can shy Yura, the daughter of an award-winning composer and a world-renowned actress, find the courage to step out on her own now that her super-celebrity parents are getting divorced?
The media is abuzz when word gets out that Yura's mega-famous parents are splitting up. Already accustomed to the daily pressure of being the child of celebrities, Yura explodes in a frustrated rant against her parents--and her heated words end up being broadcasted live on national TV! When a powerful talent scout hears her impassioned declaration, he offers to represent her. The door to showbiz is now flung open for this timid wallflower--will she try to become an actress in her own right?

Some points:
- I've read the scan of this last year and was glad that it got licensed.
- So far, all of the major players are introduced. We haven't seen Yura's dad yet.
- I feel really bad for manga heros and heroines. Their parents are either dead/missing or heartless bastards - pardon my french. It must be trying.

Bottom line, it's a fun read so far.

37. 1 volume of Dinosaur Hour (恐竜の時間).

from Viz website
Journey Back to the Jurassic...
...and sneak a peek at your favorite dinosaurs as you've never seen them! Dinosaur Hour! is a collection of comics about dinos who are bullies and ghost-believers, pranksters and bungling little brothers. With such goofy antics, it's no wonder these guys went extinct!

Some points:
- A very fast read but no less enjoyable.
- There are some fun facts about the dinosaurs - length/height, name, type (herbivore or carnivore).
- Their antics :) It's somewhat regrettable that viz didn't keep the original japanese cover instead using a cartoony cover ala dumming down the series.

Image is from manga update - uploaded to my server.

Bottom line, aside from that note, I'll get #2 and subsequent volumes for sure.

Continuing series:

Random rambling: series that I didn't want to read after reading their blurbs but ended up on my favorite list ...
  • Skip Beat! about a girl following her love, betrayed by him, vowed revenge - hm, right!
  • Gatcha gacha about a girl who's had bad luck in love - in fact she just had her 10+th break up but she still believes in true love - um what???
  • From Far Away similar to Fushigi Yugi, a girl who came to a strange world travelling with a warrior who planned to kill her - will he kill her or won't he?
  • Mars high school drama with violence, racing, suicide ... - too much for me to handle

Random question of the day: What is the appeal of vampire? Why is vampire so fascinating? I was told that either one gets it or one doesn't. Apparently, I belong to the group that doesn't.
