9. 24 episodes of Scrapped Princess. Quote: "Pacifica-san."

from Wiki

from IMBd

from Rotten Tomatoes

from Anime News Network

I like it very much. There are inevitable sad moments even deaths ... over all I enjoy it and am rewatching it the second time now. I don't think Shannon and Pacifica are a couple, even though there are moments it seems that way at least on Pacifica's side. I feel that Shannon treats her more like Sakura's big brother Toya treats Sakura. I'll be happy if Pacifica and Leo are a couple. Leo is just so sincere and cute. He's similar to Syaoran but less intense ;) I watch it in original Japanese with English subtitled - sounds like I'm a snob.

------------

30. 3 volumes of Mouryou Kiden: Legend of the Nymph (魍魎姫伝, Mōryō Kiden).

wiki

Written and illustrated by Tamayo Akiyama

from Tokyopop website: Book 1
- Creator was formerly a member of CLAMP

In a land submerged in a thousand years of fog, demons and nymphs do battle. Until one day, the fated meeting of sworn enemies unravels an intricate love story and hurls Ayaka, the daughter of the deity Reiki, into a voyage of discovery and maddening love. An original member of CLAMP, the world's best-selling manga studio, Tamayo Akiyama delivers an unforgettable fantasy adventure!

Some points:
- yikes, the font used was terrible, I could barely read it - I guess my eyes need some checked up. Still.
- Beautiful drawing but the story doesn't have much depth and transitions aren't very smooth. The speech of a certain character is a bit too rough for my taste. Oh well.
- Of course, there is a twist at the end but the story didn't really hold my attention. I'm not sure if I was influenced by other reviews of this series that I've read.

Bottom line, no reread.

31. 2 volumes of Someday's Dreamers (魔法遣いに大切なこと, Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto, lit. "Things That Are Precious To a Mage").

wiki

Written by Norie Yamada and illustrated by Kumichi Yoshizuki

from Tokyopop website:
Volume 1: Yume innocently uses her magic to help the people she encounters--soccer players, the wrongly incarcerated, or two young lovers wanting to see the moon on a cloudy night. And you can bet that Yume's magic leads to new adventures--and a few mishaps!

Volume 2: Prejudice and confrontation leaves no one unscathed even magic users. Yume and Masami are kicked out of a taxi because they are magic users. Masami is ambushed by a young boy named Daiki, who has a strange request to ask him. On top of that, Masami must prepare for the all important graduation exams. Masami's life will continue to spiral down if he is unable to confront what is in is heart.

Some points:
- I like it very much. So gentle and much depth, I thought.
- The drawing is also nice.

Bottom line, a definitely reread.

32. 1 volume of Avalon High: Coronation - volume 1 : The Merlin prophesy.

wiki

Written by Meg Cabotand illustrated by Jinky Coronado

from Tokyo website:
Being a new student at Avalon High has been exciting for Ellie, to say the least--she's an honor student, a star on the track team, and, oh yeah, dating the super-hot class president, Will. Who also happens to be the alleged reincarnation of King Arthur.

Ellie couldn't be happier to have Will in her life, but she's also worried that his estrangement from his parents is tearing him apart. To make matters worse, Will's doubt that he really is King Arthur could prevent the Merlin Prophecy--an age of enlightenment--from occurring. Can Ellie convince Will to believe in something that even she isn't sure about? And more importantly, can she get him to give his parents another chance?

With all the mythology and mysticism of AVALON HIGH, Meg Cabot's very first manga is indeed a tale for the ages.

Some points:
- This is supposed to be the continuation of "Avalon High" by Meg Cabot which I read last year and am curious about. The story doesn't progress much from the novel, though. The first chapter is the summary of the book. It's ok. I prefer the novel, though. Ah well. There are supposed to be 3, but so far there seems to be no plans regarding when #2 will be published. eta: actually according to amazon.com #2 will be released on 6/24/08

Bottom line, I guess I'm not following this series.

33. 2 volumes of Shrine of the morning mist (朝霧の巫女, Asagiri no Miko).

wiki

Written and illustrated by Hiroki Ugawa

from Tokyopop website:
Vol 1: Sisters Kurako, Yuzu and Tama are Miko priestesses, entrusted with keeping an eye on the often volatile spirit world. But when you're a teenager like Yuzu, you want nothing more than to lead a normal life and deal with growing up and falling in love. Enter Tadahiro, the sisters' cousin, who has a mysterious connection to Yuzu's past--and a strained relationship with his other relatives. Alas, family drama may have to wait! The spirit world suddenly shifts out of balance, unleashing demons into our world who have set their sights on Tadahiro...

Vol 2: Trouble seems to follow Tadahiro everywhere he goes. When the school is inundated with rampaging apparitions, a student taskforce is formed to combat the evil spirits. Tadahiro narrowly averts disaster when an unexpected new friend rescues him during one of the attacks... But this surprising, newfound ally may have less than noble intentions in mind for Yuzu's young cousin!

Some points:
- There are 5 volumes in Japanese but there are only 4 listed at Tokyopop website. I wonder when #5 will be coming out. So I was kind of reluctant to get #3 and #4.
- I do like the story. I like the 3 sisters. Their dad reminds me of chan from Angelic layers :)

Bottom line, wait and see, I guess. I do like the series, however, I'd hate it not to know the ending - with only 1 book left, so I'd rather not know the ending reading only 2 beginning books.

I've also read #23 of Hana-Kimi: here

eta 2/2/09: Emma 7
