France's manga selection makes me soooo envious! Viz should be publishing Yume Miru Taiyou. And farming manga. And 80s manga. (or (slightly) more realistically, we need more publishers to help make all that stuff happen.)
Interesting news about Kinokuniya... I wonder if that has anything to do with them not offering free shipping last month. And I wonder if that means they won't offer it as frequently in the future. Hmmm. Just have to wait and see...
Madame Petit. Yeah, Mariko's husband was killed on the train. Only, actually... he wasn't!!!! Another one of the passengers on the train was posing as his dead body when Mariko made the discovery (she finds out later because he has the robe the "dead body" was wearing in his luggage-it's actually his own robe. and the bed where the body was supposedly being kept afterward (see p163-onward) just had a rolled-up blanket. It appears her husband got off the train at some point, and meets up with another girl?! (p168) I don't know/remember what other details were revealed; I think he had some family issues going on over who his mother wanted him to marry, or something like that.
And your Dawn of the Arcana summary surprised me (I've stopped reading it). I wouldn't have expected that turn of events!
Devil and Her Love Song's stopping point for this volume made me so mad (in an "I must read more!" way). Oh, Shin!!!
OH and wow, this is totally late and I meant to tell you sooner, but I got the books you sent last week! (like, a full week ago or so...) Sorry!! And thank you so much!! I didn't know each volume started with a little fairy-tale illustration. They're so cute :D When are you getting the French edition? (is it out yet?)
I may check out "Aisazu ni wa Irarenai." I also went to Kino in San Jose, they moved in April to a smaller venu next door which they had been before. So it's interesting to be back there again. The other building now has for lease sign. Thank you for replying about Madame Petit. It seems that she had a crush on him, but he treats her like a kid, right? So is the other girl the one he loved or the one his mother wanted him to marry? Anyway, Mariko is too cute :) And the Indian boy seems interesting. I like Nakaba, Caesar, and Loki. I forgot another detail, I'll add under spoiler tag. Poor Shin! I'm glad they had arrived, I was wondering, but I figured you were busy or worst the books got lost! The french is up to vol 7 which was out June 7th. They are in my basket waiting to check out, but the Euro is strong now so I wait until I make a dent in my tbr list first. I have 2 boxes of french manga which has been sitting on tbr pile for 2 years! Yes, I'm excited about these french version. Another interesting thing is if you remember, I got Strobe Edge 1-5 in French before Viz licensed it. In the French version, Ren called Ninako by her last name and not Ninako at all. I thought it was interesting to compare 2 versions :) I like her illustrations a lot. Maybe she'll have an art book.
I just looked up the info on Aisazu ni wa Irarenai. Aww, it's an old Margaret series!! (i'm fangirling over the cover again.) The art looks cute. Hope you enjoy, if you end up reading it!
I don't remember exactly what the issue with the mother in Madame Petit was, so I'm not sure who the other girl is... Volume 2 is out soon/now? so whenever I make a Kino order I'll have to refresh my memory and let you know what I find out!
Oh, makes sense to wait on ordering the books when the exchange rate is bad! Especially when you have other books still waiting to be read :) (but I have several Japanese titles I haven't read yet either... and some English ones too ^^; )
Interesting note about the names in Strobe Edge. I know Viz doesn't keep name-honorifics in their translations, but I'm a little surprised if they would actually change which names characters use. The art is super cute, I agree!! Have you heard about the animated movie coming up that she did the character design for?
"Volume 2 is out soon/now? so whenever I make a Kino order I'll have to refresh my memory and let you know what I find out!" Great. Thanks. "but I have several Japanese titles I haven't read yet either... and some English ones too ^^; " I've become such a book hoarder. Unfortunately, I waited too long to buy "Dangerous Attraction" 4 in French and now it's not available on amazon.fr. I'm hoping it gets a reprint when the last volume #5 is out. It's too early for it to be out of print! "but I'm a little surprised if they would actually change which names characters use." hm, it could have been the french changed the name, now, I'm curious which one is in the Japanese tankobon. "Have you heard about the animated movie coming up that she did the character design for? " No, I didn't, which one and when?
The movie is called Hal (or Haru). ANN had a link to an 8-minute clip from the movie here. (also, I guess it's already out in Japan. I haven't heard of any plans to release it here...) It looks beautiful!!
