Initial impressions of Initial D
Was up late last night munching on Snyder's(TM) Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzel Bits n' Pieces (aba ninamnam talaga) while watching Initial D Fourth Stage on Animax. I was kinda bopping to the eurobeat theme playing during Takumi and Tomo's uphill race (I still have to research on the theme's title. All I can tell you right now is it wasn't by move, and had the phrase "together forever".) when my younger brother Patrick asked me why I bothered to watch it when the Taglish dubbing sucked.
"I'm watching it for the music," I said. Animax should have subbed it instead of dubbed it. Something really gets lost in translation, particularly the Taglish translation. The nuances of the characters' personalities get lost in the scramble to fit the words in while the character's mouth is still moving.
To be fair, it has a good story, although it would be cool if Takumi lost more often hehehe. Plus I don't see Keisuke in driving action much! It isn't fair! =~( He's my favorite character 'coz he's such a badass hahaha! And the bright yellow FD RX-7 he drives is simply wicked! *_*
If the rumors on the upcoming eppies have any worth, Kyoko is going to be a contender for my favorite character as well. She drives a black FD RX-7, so she and Keisuke are on an even level car-wise. From what I've read she'll be a warrior princess slash comic relief character. Can't wait for next Sunday!
