The way that you phrase the two major points means that, at least according to you, I understood it properly when I first heard it. Yes, I can understand the argument that "technically", Mary is Co-Redemptrix. And what about John the Baptizer's critical role in the Ministry of Jesus, linking the prophecy of the Old Covenant to the coming of the New? Does not he hold a Co-Redemptor status with heralding the coming of the Kingdom and baptizing Jesus? Is that not "technically", then, as well?
Also, I agree that there is a problem of Mariolatry and JPII did nothing to help that. I find the dogma a slippery slope. Perhaps it is my Protestantism, but with such beliefs as the Ascension, I find that certain popes have gone too far.
I don't think that Benedict XVI is going to accept this one. He has more practical fish to fry, he understands his tenure will be shorter and that his role is not to make any major waves. He said he took the name "Benedict" to exemplify that.
