The exterior is almost finished!! It's come a long way since the
the last time I posted about it.
Here is the exterior before:
And now:
So, here's everything that was done:
- stripped off all of the aluminum siding
- reconditioned the windows: reglazed, stripped, stained the inside, painted the outside, rehung the couterweights
- had the porch structure rebuilt (the one thing I hired out): structural beams and two of the columns
- adjusted the porch structure because they didn't do a good enough job and installed the third column
- rebuilt the destroyed architectural woodwork: the cornice on the front bay window (the part right underneath the roof) and all the woodwork on the porch
- removed the screen door, repaired the door - there were about five lock holes, everytime a lock failed, they just drilled a new hole and installed a new one - painted it, and installed a new lockset.
- installed and stained a soffit on the ceiling to cover up the ugliness
- painted everything
- installed a new pendant light
All that is left is the porch railing. I'd like to build out a wood railing, but it would be more expensive and I can't seem to find spindles that I like. We still have the wrought iron railings that were there when we bought it. That'd be less expensive since I'd just have to pay a metalworker to install new brackets. But, I'm not sure which I will do, maybe I'll make a poll.
Oh, and I need to find decorative wreaths and garlands, hopefully reclaimed ones from the neighborhood that will match the other houses.
So, now I get to go back to the interior .. lots of sanding of drywall seams and plaster patches, I am thrilled.
