"real"

Building on hussla recent thoughts ... Thinking of the recurring hoopla over who is a "real" Catholic, more than whether you are Democrat or Republican, pro-life or pro-choice, revisionist or traditionalist .. the "real" Catholics are the ones who will be at mass on Thursday. More than anything, worship makes us Catholic, and if we are earnestly ( Read more... )

So, you are saying people who observe the Holy Days of Obligation are the "real" Catholics?

I neglected to look at the date, and thought he meant every Thursday. I've heard of First Friday devotions, and could see that being extended to every Friday, but I hadn't heard of any devotion attending Mass every Thursday.

I'm saying that worship, which observation of HDOs is a part of, is a far better sign of one's faith than the hot-point issues coming out of the political realm.

I'm eating Butterfinger Crisps, and "the 'real' Catholics are the ones who are at Mass on Thursday" made me stop mid-chew and glance frantically at the calendar, thinking, "Fuck! Did I miss it?" I can't tell what day of the week it is half the time these days.

But, thanks for reminding me to be vigilant this week about keeping track!

BTW, I wasn't sure it was an HDO, so I figured I'd hear at Mass (especially since I went to the Cathedral). But Father Reed mentioned it not once during the Mass or the announcements, and there was no mention of it in the bulletin. Further, the diocesan website says nothing. I scrounged around Google until I found the Cathedral's website, and finally there was an announcement and Mass times, but wtf?

I've never been into all that hoop-jumping and counting up years mentality involved with indulgences.

But I am soooooooooo all over the opportunity for a plenary indulgence. The thought of it makes me hungry.

It'll be my first. And man... do I ever feel like I need it -_-

I'm going to Holy Rosary on Thursday, my darling. I'll be thinking of you and wishing we could worship together the whole time.

my co-worker and I are adopting a "pascal's wager" approach to this plenary indulgence thing. I usual roll my eyes at the very concept, but, like you, I feel like I need it.

anything that will get my butt to confession is a good thing, I guess...

I couldn't agree more.

I consider us quite fortunate in that regard. We can not always control what we feel, or even what we believe, but we can control what we do and trust that our actions will lead us to the rest.

true. whenever I see people wanting to leave the church over this or that, I always ask whether they've got any belief in transubstantiation, since they won't find it elsewhere. I won't go so far as to say "the rest is just details", but if you have faith, certainly you can pray for understanding of the things you disagree with.
