good thing i like to be busy
I am now working at the University of Pittsburgh [soon as a for real staff member!] and as such am entitled to perks such as FREE TUITION which basically is the only reason why i am working here since the pay is quite awful, really. also, consulting with students and running an internship program is not so fun day to day as i had originally anticipated.
so i think i'm going to get my certificate in either European Union Studies or West European Studies before i decide what i want to do for graduate school. either way i'm nervous because i will have to take a lot of french classes. also one of my professors is working on a project that i want to help with real bad so hopefully i can do that too, here is what it is:
Murder Most Sacred, Murder Most Foul: A book-length manuscript in progress that uses the assassination of Leon Trotsky to examine the rise and nature of threat construction, scapegoating, conspiratorial worldviews, and political violence among communists in the USSR, Spain, Mexico and the United States in 1935-40.
i just finished reading beat hotel which was about the beats in paris in the 50s and 60s which was awesome but i was a little disappointed because they weren't really interested in french culture while they were there, only their own work, and i think thats kind of lame. also i just read nickel and dimed because mitch was badgering me to do it. now i started the serpent and the rainbow, by Wade Davis, who is an ethnobotanist researching vodoun zombification in Haiti. so far so good.
and i am hoping to take a vacation to new york soon! and also research grad schools while i'm there although i'm really liking the new school for social research.
