Wow, I am going to get soaked tonight. I have an umbrella, but.
I have had no time to write my varied thoughts on SYTYCD; this morning started with an overflowing clogged toilet, and it hasn't gone far uphill from there. On the positive side, I did keep the toilet water (not remotely to be confused with eau du toilette) from flowing out onto the hardwood floors, and I have kicked Access' arse at work today. Anyway:
Kent's bromance gone wrong piece was by far the best thing he's done this season, and I give him honest respect for that. Last night was the first time he looked genuinely frightened and scared, deer in the headlights rather than preening peacock showing off in the spotlight. Maybe being shaken down several pegs enabled him to connect to something deeper. Still don't want him to win. And his disco was terrible.
Adechike I would like to be better. Alone he's brilliant, but he has no idea what to do with a partner, except in that routine with Comfort, who I think in her hip hop stage persona demands attention from her partner in a way that dancers of other genres can't/don't. Or maybe he just likes her a lot more, who knows. I expected a lot more of him in the African jazz number, but I had to agree with most of the critique from the judges. He has tremendous technique but he doesn't send his energy anywhere, not down into the ground, not out to his partner, and only rarely out to the audience. (All-Star Lauren, btw, I thought was amazing in the African jazz)
Robert blossomed last night. I thought his waltz had a strange stiffness to it that broke his body in half, but apparently that's what a Viennese waltz is supposed to look like, since the judges praised that very stiffness. The clown hip hop was very fun. Also, damn, is that boy handsome.
Lastly but not leastly Lauren, who I thought was the best last night, and I voted for her. I really do agree that she already dances with the maturity of some of the All-Stars. I even looked at her once in a while when she was dancing with Pasha. The ending to their slow tango was so romantic! And the difference from early in the season to now in playing the seductress was amazing. Though it was a bit sobering to be reminded that she's only 18 or 19, as she stood there in a lace body stocking and pasties.
Hated Tyce's opening number. At first I was thinking why are all the dancers so boring and characterless, and then I remembered it was a Tyce Broadway piece and thus completely cliché and trite.
Argh, not only I am going to get soaked but my meleya and veil and fans are going to get soaked too...
