SYTYCD

The hip-hop/samba opening number might have been good, but it was impossible to tell from the camera work and lighting.  Isn't the point of a choreography to have people moving through space in relation to one another?  Then why not show those relationships?!?  It felt very random as it was.  Or maybe it was genuinely random, the water thing was pretty random to me.  Ah well.

I was not at all surprised by the bottom three couples, even if the judges were, and was satisfied with the results.  I thought while watching Asuka do her solo that she looked tired, which would also explain why her timing was so off in her duet on Wednesday night.  So as I said in yesterday's SYTYCD post, I think she was the right choice to go home from a lack of progress standpoint, but I also think it was doing her a favor to send her home before she got seriously injured or injured her partner.  Karla's solo was wobbly but it did look more like nerves than anything physical.  Caitlin I have been scorning all season, but I have to admit her solo was very good, definitely the best by far of the six solos that evening.  I didn't think there was potential for growth there but I will admit it if I was wrong.

Much as I like Vitolio, it was a tough call between him and Jonathan based on the solos.  Jason, it's a foregone conclusion, they aren't going to boot for a while, but he was repetitive and lacklustre too.  Maybe they took into account his presumed grief over Michael Jackson.  I think the judges made the right decision, largely because even though Vitolio could/should have pushed himself more, he did come across better as actually dancing and not just pulling out items from a bag of tricks.

Karla and Vitolio could make a very good couple--it seems like she gives back as much as she gets, which I don't think Vitolio was getting from Asuka.

Cat Deely was looking fabulous in her tribute to Farrah, with her feathered hair and flowing halter-top pantsuit.  She did somewhat spoil the male results though when she whispered to Asuka, "I don't know what Vitolio will do without you," which implied that she knew the results already.  Which makes sense, so that she can prepare a bit what she's going to say, but that was a bit of a slip.

Rage Boys Crew were cute, but rather too cute to be called Rage, I dunno.  The Veronicas were hellaciously derivative but I suppose the kids these days don't know that.  They get half a gold star for half live-singing and only half lip-synching.

The first morning glory of the season was out in bloom as I left for work today--I think it was greeting the return of the sun.  Certainly made me feel rewarded for weeding after I got home last night!  I don't know for sure, but I think some of the moonflower seeds that never came up last year might have sprouted this year.  Not all of the vines have the same sorts of leaves, some of them are solid colored and some of them have faint spots.  I guess I'll just have to wait to find out.
