Today I finally had an afternoon with nothing--nothing at all!--scheduled, so I did my Randa Masters of Choreography DVD and the first disc of Cassandra's Conditioning for Dancers DVD.
Ooh, Cassandra's DVD is out? They said at Oasis that it would effectively be what she taught in her conditioning classes, which were lovely. At Oasis you could start the day with conditioning with Cassandra, before breakfast, and the class was gentle but, like the name says, conditioning.
You're right about her being an advertisement for her own conditioning, and not just in her awesome orientale mode. During the henna party at Oasis she and Amel Tafsout were cutting loose and it was the most hilarious and inspiring thing I ever saw. Cassandra is crazy for that Santana song "Smooth" and she and Amel were flinging themselves around like lunatics to it, huge leaps across the dance floor. The best bit was the faux dirty dancing in which Cassandra did a backbend to the floor, supporting herself with one arm. Gendi, my teacher, said she's seen Cassandra do a full on old-school Turkish drop while dancing socially.
I haven't even gotten to the performances yet--I was afraid my head would explode ;-)
The biggest obstacle for me I think was coming out of those fast turns right into other movements, usually the arabesque sequence. But it's good training to try to keep up with her.
