holiday excess

I wish there was a way to convince people to do exactly ZERO shopping on Thanksgiving ( and the following Friday if I really had my druthers ).

I feel like being asked ( or forced ) to work on one of the few big non-religious holidays that centers around spending time with your loved ones so your employer can make dosh that day is pretty much heinous.

I wish we, as a society, did not reward retailers who run these insane store deals and hours on Thanksgiving day. Consumers who want to spend money can do it pretty much any other day , ya know?

I want the guy who helps bag my groceries and that lady who checks me out at Ross to be able to enjoy their Thanksgiving with their family/friends and not be worried that they have to jump up and leave so they can make their work shift ( or have to arrive late to the meal because they were manning some stupid counter so the random person who forgot "roll and gravy" can grab shit last minute ).

So I boycott going to ANY store on Thanksgiving, even my beloved Starbucks.

I don't do Black Friday either ... but maybe more because the whole day is so overboard with people acting poorly and acting like buying loads of shit is just so damn important ... That's just not how I roll, it feels icky, it feels like it really lacks personal touch , it feels empty. *shrug*

Thanksgiving will find me working technically ... i'll be doing my shtick and making all-things run smoothly for our homeless kids at MGP. Our usual Friday night drop in facility will be open and making Thanksgiving special for them. I'll also be making a pit stop at my folks and hopefully at my good friends Daniel & Jason.

Hope your Thanksgiving goes swimmingly, hugs and kisses my friends :)
