The last couple weeks have actually been pretty good. The sick-blah was mostly in a dormant phase (may it stay that way), and so I've been able to do my normal activities -- I went to silks two weeks in a row, and squares!
The last couple weekends have also been full of things. Two weekends ago, I went to Chicago for two of my cousins' b'nei mitzvah. It was the first time I've seen that side of the family after coming out, so I was a little nervous, but they seemed generally pretty chill about it. I did have to keep correcting name and pronoun a bit more than I like, but hey, that still happens some in my normal life in Boston, too.
Before the family went and got all my time, I got to spend some time with
redglasses (who was kind enough to pick me up from the airport) and
styger (who it was good to meet for the first time). I hadn't seen Mym since a very long time ago, and it was nice to catch up. We got to talk about some of the stuff that I wish we'd talked to each other about back when we were in high school, but didn't, basically because I am/was a giant chicken. I remain amused at how queer (according to my description of it now) my social group was back then, without really seeming to bother identifying as queer at all. In any case, very nice hanging out, and a whole lot of mint tea (yay mint).
This last weekend, three things that made it pleasant: First, mystery hunt. I had enough energy to participate, with my fabulous casual-awesome team R2-Disco (nee Optimus Funk; nee Groovytron)! I took Friday off from work, even, and made it to kickoff, which meant I got to see some people from out of town on other teams that I would not otherwise have been able to see. Sadly, I didn't feel quite as productive on hunt as I have some years, but I still had fun. I feel like this year a lot of the time I was able to be around was time where we were just stuck on a lot of puzzles at once. That said, I really enjoyed the letter-shape-based cryptic crossword, and also had fun with wandering by random puzzles and assisting with random little things that made solving faster ("your diagramless grid is going to have 180 degree symmetry like a standard crossword", "sort these things by number of letters" and the like).
It was another event where there were lots of people I hadn't seen for a while though. Oh, pronouns. You're so silly.
Second,
iainuki was in town, and I got to meet her in person, and even drag her to hunt a little bit. We wandered around and did some clothes-shopping, because that's hard for her to do in her current living situation, and had a few meals together, and chatted... and more hunt. Yay internet people turning real!
Third,
melithiel. Mmm spending time with my love!
Healthwise, I am doing a lot better for now (the last two weeks or so). But I am not going to claim to be well, at this point -- so far my sickness has just randomly come back several times, so I am not going to trust it until I've felt well again for quite a while.
