Oi what a day! It started at 6:15am with Dominic's phone alarm going off and waking us both up with a jolt. We'd only gone to bed around 3am after he and Michael returned from midnight mass. I dodged the bullet on going
. Michael scrapped the ice off my windshield and we headed over to their parents house knowing that the kids would be up and wanting to open presents by 7am. Nutcases.
So we wander in and a couple of the kids are just heading into the living room while the rest are waking up. We take our seats on the floor in front of the wood stove where it's warm and soon all the kids are in there and they bring in the baby Jesus statue and the opening of presents begins.
First came our stockings, where I got a sudoku book, a three pack of metallic gel pens, some cute makeup bags, and a pot holder/oven mitt set. Dominic got a Rubik's cube, some candy, and I don't know what else. I'd never done sudoku before, but this evening I read the objective and solved the first puzzle in 5 minutes. Interesting. We opened our presents from his sister Celeste (the former nun) and she'd given us a box of munchies, basically. A few cheetoes cheese cracker packets, a dessert thing, a hot cocoa mix pouch, a couple cocoa mugs, and a packet of red filling holiday oreos. She said she really didn't know what to get us so she put together a bunch of munchies. Then the gift from Dominic's parents was a beautiful purple afghan that his mom knitted. It had different shades of dark purple, medium purple, and gray accents. Along with an IOU of 12 more inches since she hadn't finished it in time
.
I took some good pictures and after opening gifts we went in and they made breakfast and we ate. Unfortunately Bernadette (sis, 19) made a weird frittata casserole as the main couse and it had way too much going on in it for me to venture that far. So I had three small cinnamon rolls and a piece of sausage instead. I'd had a cheese horn on the drive out so I figured I'd be fine. Then I went into the living room and laid back in their recliner and fell asleep. I was awoken about an hour later with Bernadette's kitten Cinderella asleep on my chest. She's such a cutie pie... looks a LOT like Muse... and of course I have super cute photos of her.
We left their house and came back to Mike's apt. I went straight to bed and I guess they were up playing WoW for like half an hour before Mike decided to crash and Dom came in to the trailer and got into bed soon after. It was about 10:15a when we first got back and I headed into bed, and around 1:30p when I got up finally. Got ready to go and at 3:30p we headed over to Dom's grandma's house for dinner with the extended family. Got there relatively on time and spent time talking to his cousins and aunts and uncles and such. His grandmother loved the cross ornament and angel ornament I'd given her (got them at Wales & Friends in Alameda) and my mother in law said they were beautiful as well and complimented me on looking really nice in my purple shirt and with my hair down. I wish I could have looked as nice for the fucking portraits on Sunday!
Dinner was okay... the turkey and ham were yummy but the only other side dish was a macaroni salad, and I don't do pasta salad at all in any form. There was also a cheese platter and a veggie platter so my dinner consisted of the turkey, ham, a couple pieces of bread, a few olives, some Ruffles, and some cheese. Then dessert was a piece of cake and then a piece of coconut cream pie that was SO good. His grandma made it. She gave us a card with a mass offered in our name (big whop) and a guilt trip for Dominic written inside about returning to church. He said he doesn't mind getting something like that from his grandma and he's sure a couple of his other cousin's probably got similar cards. We met his cousin Corby's 9 month old daughter Ella and she's SO adorable. Turns out his wife is pregnant again (not showing yet).
Came back to the apartment for what's turned out to be the nightly routine while we've been here... Dominic and Michael playing WoW and my sitting beside Dom on the couch with our laptop fuckin' around on the internet. At this point I'm sort of tired but kind of not really. I don't have anywhere to be in the morning so I'm not concerned about sleeping in and missing anything, although with tomorrow being Wednesday it's sort of hard to believe that our week here will be halfway over. POOP... I need more time off...not necessarily here, but anywhere :P
