I'm aure they've devised many interesting ways to occupy their time, and sometimes it's probably just nice to be crusing around with not much else to do. They'll be headlong back into adventure soon enough.

I can just visualise HOW the boys would keep themselves occupied. Nice to have time to indulge themselves with no distractions, I'm sure they both enjoyed some interesting visits to other planets too.

Oh, they'll have a splendid time in their new life (this is a brief glimpse into the future following 'Ghost of a Chance'). They'll find plenty to do in their free time en route to the next planet, but not ALWAYS doing what you think. Even they can't keep that up all the time ;)
