Ryo had some major changes happen in his life very suddenly. Even though they turned out well it had to be a bit overwhelming at the time.

It really must have been - moving apartment, promotion to detective, joining a new precinct, taking in a child... Such a whirlwind, but Dee was already there to sort of ground him. That must have helped, in Dee's own unique way.
