Ohhhh...*heart melts* ♥ I never thought, when you told me about these guys' backgrounds, about what something like that would mean for Dee whenever his birthday came around. Something simple that the rest of us take for granted would really mean a lot to someone like him, not having had it.

Geez, I don't even know these characters outside of your fics, and I'm really starting to like them a lot!

Poor Dee. Yeah, I doubt that Mother Maria Lane had time to bake birthday cakes for all the kids in her care and she wouldn't want to treat one differently, even if Dee WAS her favourite because she raised him from a baby. Having a home baked birthday cake would mean the world to him.

Dee doesn't even have a proper birthday to celebrate, nobody knows when he was born because he was found abandoned in an alley, so he celebrates his finding day instead. He just hasn't told Ryo about that yet.

In a sense, Ryo has ended up taking in two orphans - Bikky AND Dee, giving them both a family.

That's certainly understandable; it wouldn't be fair to the others. An outward show of favoritism would leave a lot of people hurt.

Wow. :-/ The poor guy. I imagine that will probably bring them closer together when Ryo does find out; he'll probably want to make up for all those lost years.

They just seem so sweet at times like this; I wish I'd known about this sooner! :)

Yeah, just after Dee introduces Ryo to his Mother, the orphanage is blown up a Mother Lane is almost killed. Dee is in quite a state and there are some just brilliant scenes in that storyline. That's in Vol. 2, still way before they become lovers in Vol. 7.

I think it will. There'll be some sadness as he thinks about his father, but he's going to have fun, gifts, and food. I bet Ryo's bought him a games console and some games so he can play on that with his friends =)
