I didn't like the way RTD made it look like the Doctor "dumped" Sarah Jane. Anyway, the Doctors reaction to seeing her for the first time after so many years was nice.

It was, he was certainly surprised.

However they parted company (and I don't remember because I haven't seen any fourth Doctor episodes in decades), it's only natural for Sarah Jane to feel that she'd been abandoned and left behind, even if it was her own choice, because letting go of something so wonderful has got to be hard.

Thank you.

I know that Sarah Jane asked to be taken home temporarily. She explained it in "School Reunion".

She thought he was coming back for her. But you know how the Doctor is. By the end of the episode she has closure because at least she knows what happened to him. She just didn't expect it to end that soon.

It was the insinuation that Sarah Jane had a crush like Martha did on the Doctor. I don't think it was like that. Sure they were close. He referred to her as his best friend. He did not refer to a champion that way until Donna.

RTD just wanted to make some "cat fight" between Sarah Jane and Rose.

Thanks for the reminder! I should do a re-watch but I never seem to have time.

That's why I said Sarah Jane envied Rose, she wishes she could be the one still adventuring. Mostly, the Doctor and his companion ARE simply two friends travelling and exploring together. Sarah Jane misses that while Rose has it all before her. The Doctor has easily found someone else to show the universe to, SJ is no longer the one who gets to share it.

It was nice to have a follow up to the old series.

Rose's face when she saw Ten and Sarah Jane holding hands.:D

Rose has to know she isn't the first to travel with the Doctor!

There was a deleted scene where Amy knew she couldn't have been the "first".

Even though Rose realise Sarah Jane was someone important in the Doctor life at one stage, she still stay in denial about the status of her own relationship and where it was going with the Doctor.

Rose was young and naive, caught up in the romance of travelling with such an extraordinary person. She ever really seemed to grow up much.

The main point of traveling with the Doctor is to learn and grow as a person. All I saw Rose do was be a little more confident. Her "love" for the Doctor stalled any character depth or maturity which is a shame.

I agree, and it's why I like the other companions better because they DID grow and mature. Rose just because more like she already was. She had potential at the start, but it never really went anywhere and that was frustrating for viewers.

I wish Rose had been a bit more feminist.

Because he's a gay man who doesn't understand women or what we want. =(

Martha had the best outcome. Donna had the worst.

The show needs a female head writer. Some could say that Moffat doesn't know about women either.

Most men don't understand women I guess. A female writer would do a lot to balance things out. That's probably true of a lot of shows though.
