I know how long Jack had been waiting for the Doctor and how bad he needed his answer so he could decide what to do afterwards but it still annoys me the whole escape ...

I still believe he didn't expect to be gone for long, probably thought he'd be back in a few hours since the Doctor is a time traveller. things just didn't work out that way though.
