Unacceptable! Someone is re-posting our fic and other posts without permission!

Re-posted from tardisjournal

Somebody with this website is repostings several authors/fanartists fics on there without listing the name of the authors/fanartists on there and apparently in most cases, without permission. I've seen a good number of stories/fanart I'm familar with on the site (all of them most likely swiped from LJ and LJ comms as several LJ links to the original authors LJs are still attached), so if your fic/art I'd definitely tell this person to take it down immediately.

It's looking increasingly likely that the it's being done automatically, via a 'bot as there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what's taken. The site calls itself a fanfiction site, but many of the posts there are NOT fanfiction, though they may mention the subject. The only unifying factor is that they're tagged with words such as 'fanfic' fan fiction' etc. In some cases (mine included) it's just the headers of fics getting copied from various sites, in others it's complete posts taken directly from people's own journals. This is something that must not be allowed to continue. Some of the posts aren't even directly attributable to the actual author because not everyone puts their author name in the headers of fics posted to their own journals.

The headers and links for at least 78 of my fics and drabbles have been copied to the site. All seem to have been taken not from my journal (I'm one of the luckier people affected) but from the posts I've made to the torchwoodcoffee community.

I have left a complaint (well, two actually) on the website, requesting that all of my posts be removed, but I haven't heard back yet and my posts are still there.

I recommend checking the site thoroughly to see if any of your own posts have been re-posted there. It takes some time to go through all the posts, they've been at this since March 2011, but if you don't want your posts appearing somewhere you have no control over, it's the only way to be sure. If the site owner gets enough complaints, maybe it'll do some good, at least getting as many posts removed as we can.

Spread the word, and tag your warning posts with words such as fanfic, because then there's a chance they'll get posted to this thieving website - there are three there already - and serve to alert visitors to the site to what's being done without our consent.

hugs f-list, fic, spread the word, beware, argh!, warning, angry, real life
