Hello! Welcome to the new edition of Fic of the Week. I think this week's fic choice should carry a warning, so here it is:

WARNING: Very dark fic ahead!

Ok, now that's out of the way...

This week's fic is Disinterred, which is a six-part fic from June 2008 by seize. As warned, it is a DARK fic, not my usual reading choice but I'm curious by nature, ( Read more... )

Excellent choice! As you've already noted, it's not for the faint of heart. If you like dark!fic though, this is one of the best out there. The writing and characterizations are top-notch.

*Joins you under the bed to re-read.*

Company is always welcome, pull up a pillow. If you didn't bring your own teddy bear, I have spares. ;)

I read horror novels, but this is Ianto and I want to cuddle him before i even start reading!

Wow... Seriously, a stunning piece of work... This is a frightening Jack and Ianto.

Jack and Ianto are frightening personalities here. I'd say this is Jack before the Doctor; the Jack who partnered Captain Hart. A truly frightening personality that Ianto has no ability to cope with but Ianto doesn't come off any better. Sneaky, cunning, provocative; stubborn; insanely brave to provoke this side of Jack; goading him with his own knowledge of Jack and himself.

And Owen's part in this deception is one hell of a surprise... I've got to clean up my Friends page more often if stuff like this is lurking there. I've got to read this again soon...

It's not the most comfortable of reads, but it's really well written. Probably the most memorable of the recent fic of the week choices!

Oh yeah!!! It was shocking; mind-boggling; but so Jack, pre-Doctor, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! You know he's done this or worse because he's spoken about it but to see him turn it against Ianto was just out of the pale.

Ianto didn't help matters by goading Jack but Owen was a total surprise by his complicity at the end. There's much more to the dynamic relationship between these three than canon lets us see. I hope you find another gem like this. I'm gonna give up the night shift for a week on this one! :D

Even so, I'm glad Owen retconned Ianto at the end, because remembering was destroying him. No one should have to live with memories like that, and worse, Ianto knows he destroyed his own happiness by demanding to remember. And Jack... he's not usually that monster, he genuinely cares about Ianto but there's always going to be that darkness inside him and if it gets out it makes him do terrible things. But Jack's a victim too, he was turned into that monster by being tortured himself.

Ianto's self-destructive tendencies melt away when he's with Jack, and Jack keeps a rein on the monster within when he's with Ianto. They're good for each other, as long as Ianto doesn't remember.
