Buffy looks so small, so delicate, and though Angel knows that in her case looks really are deceptive, he can’t help but be affected. There’s something about her that touches him deep in his soul, inspires a protectiveness he’s never experienced before.
He wants so badly to wrap her in his arms and take care of her, but thar’s not why he’s here. Warning her of approaching dangers, even fighting alongside her, he can do that, but anything more… He would be crossing a line, and he has no right to. He’s a vampire, albeit one with a soul, and she’s the Slayer. Would she even want his help? Probably not.
Still, standing there before him, in the doorway to the draughty old warehouse turned nightclub, she looks cold. A bit annoyed with him, but cold nonetheless. There are many things he can’t, or shouldn’t, do for her, but perhaps this one small gesture might be considered acceptable.
Shrugging out of his leather jacket, he drapes it around her. It’s too big for her slender frame, but somehow that doesn’t matter; it still looks better on her than it ever did on him. Now if she’d only heed his warning…
