“Filter’s clogged,” Dee said, fiddling about under the hood of JJ’s car.
“Is that bad?” JJ knew fashion, inside and out, but car engines remained a mystery to him.
“It is if ya don’t want the engine gettin’ damaged.” Dee straightened up, wiping his hands on a rag. “The filter stops dust, insects, and other crud gettin’ sucked in when the engine’s runnin’. All those little gritty particles can cause a lot of wear and tear. Longer it’s left, the worse it gets.”
“What should I do, call my mechanic?”
Dee snorted. “Why bother? I can get ya a new filter for twenty-five, thirty bucks, maybe a little more if ya wanna go high end, fit it for ya free of charge, cheaper than payin’ to have a mechanic do it. Not that ya couldn’t afford it, but why pay extra if ya don’t have to?”
“You really know how to do that?” JJ sounded impressed.
“Sure. I rebuilt the Charger’s whole engine, and the transmission; replacin’ an air filter’s easy.”
“Well, if you’re sure you wouldn’t mind…”
“It’s no trouble. What’re friends for?”
“Thanks, Dee, you’re the best! I’m so glad we’re friends now!”
“Y’know what? So am I.”
