“Hold on!” Ryo shouted over the howling wind.
“Tryin’ to!” Dee replied, voice strained, fingers cramping on the ropes, eyes tightly shut so he wouldn’t be distracted by random objects flying past him. He was starting to regret agreeing to this trip. Then again, the freak weather really wasn’t Ryo’s fault, there’d been no mention of gales in the forecast. Or rain, and yet here they were, being slammed by both.
It was the middle of the night, he and Ryo were soaked to the skin, and it was all they could do to keep their tent from tearing apart and blowing away. Ryo was working as quickly as he could to collapse one end while Dee anchored the other, then the plan was for Dee to sit on the collapsed end, holding it down, while Ryo took the rest of it down. After that they’d bundle everything in the trunk and head for the nearest town.
“Really wishin’ we’d camped in the woods instead of at a campin’ ground!” Dee bellowed as they switched places.
“You mean so we’d have trees falling on us?”
“Oh. Hadn’t thought of that.”
“Let’s just hope we can find a motel with vacancies.”
