Tosh sighed heavily, regretting the impulse to stop off at a pub for a couple of drinks before heading home. Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad if she hadn’t inadvertently blundered into the one Owen had chosen as his hunting grounds for the evening, but here she was, and there was her crush, at the end of the bar, busy chatting up a stunning blonde.
‘No wonder he isn’t interested in me.’ Toshiko felt plain, a drab little sparrow, compared to the kind of women Owen went for.
He hadn’t seen her, so if she had any sense she should slip away before he noticed she was there, but she hadn’t spotted him until after she ordered a glass of wine. She couldn’t just walk out when she’d already paid for it, and besides, running away wouldn’t change anything. Maybe if she just ignored him…
“What’s a beautiful lady like you doing sitting all by herself and looking so sad?” a voice asked. Tosh turned her head, trying to see who the man could be talking to, but there was nobody else this end of the bar.
“I’m Aiden. May I sit with you?”
“Toshiko, and yes, please do.”
