Owen Harper was a miserable sod, and he knew it. So did everyone he worked with. Harkness gave as good as he got, nothing got under his skin. Suzie mostly ignored him, like he wasn’t worth her time, except when she deigned to sleep with him. Pretty Toshiko took whatever he threw at her, then slipped away to cry in private. He sometimes felt bad for being mean to her, she wasn’t a bad sort and probably didn’t deserve to feel the sharp edge of his tongue, but what she really needed was to toughen up.
Then there was the newbie, Jack’s pretty boy in his smart suits and ties, all prim and proper. Not that Owen was impressed, or even surprised; Jack did more thinking with what was in his pants than with the brain in his head, if he even had one, which Owen seriously doubted at times. Still, it meant someone new to mess with, a new target for Owen to pick on, only…
For all his pretty face, immaculate appearance, and faultless manners, Jones wasn’t an easy mark; he had a far thicker skin than Owen had bargained for. None of Owen’s taunts got to him.
