Dee almost felt sorry for Drake; he knew from past experience what it was like being the focus of JJ’s affections. He knew the little guy probably meant well, but not everyone appreciated JJ’s over-the-top expressions of affection. He’d had to endure being showered with unwanted gifts on birthdays, Christmas, Easter, and worst of all, Valentine’s Day. Now that JJ had given up on ever winning Dee’s heart, Drake was on the receiving end.
His old friend’s desk was practically unrecognisable, decorated with brightly colored bunting declaring ‘Happy Birthday, Drakey’, and scattered with twinkly hearts and flowers confetti stuff. There was a pile of gaily wrapped gifts, a bottle of expensive wine with a huge red bow tied around the neck, and a ridiculously decadent birthday cake with chocolate frosting.
Okay, so maybe Dee coveted the cake, just a little. Hopefully everyone would get a slice, it was certainly big enough to share with the whole squad. No one in their right mind would turn down a cake like that.
Looking at Drake though… he actually seemed thrilled with JJ’s elaborate excesses. Either that or he was a way better actor than Dee would’ve thought.
A match made in heaven.
