A/N: Triple drabble and a half, 350 words.
The trouble with Commissioner Berkeley Rose was that he wasn’t accustomed to having people say ‘no’ to him. All his life, he’d probably gotten whatever he wanted, paid for at first by his parents, and now out of his own pocket, because being wealthy meant he could afford pretty much anything, from flash cars and designer clothes to luxury apartments and expensive vacations.
Being wealthy, and charming, also meant that he’d rarely if ever had trouble attracting willing bed partners. Flash the cash, treat whoever caught his eye to a few expensive dinners, nights out in his private box at the opera, the symphony, or the ballet, a day at the races, a weekend on Cape Cod… Who was going to refuse that?
Well, Ryo for one.
Ryo wasn’t rich, but he wasn’t dirt poor either. He’d inherited from his parents after they were murdered, and he’d been careful with his money, living well within his means, although raising Bikky and paying the bail so that Carol’s dad could die at home had certainly cut into his savings.
Still, money wasn’t so overwhelmingly important to him. As long as he had enough to get by, plus a bit saved for emergencies, he was content.
Rose’s wealth didn’t impress him. He liked the commissioner well enough, as a superior, and perhaps as a friend, but that was it. No matter how much Rose tried to tempt him with expensive gifts, he wasn’t biting.
Even now they were in a relationship, Rose still hadn’t given up trying to lure Ryo away from Dee. Not that Ryo ever seemed to notice, but Dee sure as hell did.
“Give it up, Rose,” Dee murmured, so quietly that only the commissioner could hear. “He’s just not interested.”
“What does he even see in you? I could treat him so much better than you can. He could have the best of everything, no expense spared!”
Ryo turned to look at the two men. “I don’t want all that, I never did. All I’ve ever needed is someone who loves and accepts me for who I am.”
