“It’s nearly May!” Dee exclaims, indignation bordering on outright offence.

“I know,” Ryo replies, joining his lover at the window and staring out at the white flakes drifting down from a leaden sky.

“It shouldn’t be snowin’! It’s spring! Weather’s supposed to be warmin’ up, not gettin’ colder!” He throws an injured look his partner’s way.

“I don’t know why you’re looking at me like that. I’m not making it snow.”

“You don’t seem all that upset about it.”

“What would be the point? It’s weather, it does what it does, and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.” Ryo returned to his desk, settling down to try and get some work done, doing his best to ignore the falling snow.

“It sucks!” Dee is scowling out the window as if he thinks he can intimidate the weather, maybe make the snow go back where it came from. Personally, Ryo thinks it’s unlikely, but Dee’s stubborn enough that if he wants to try, Ryo’s not going to stand in his way. “It was high seventies last week!”

“And now it’s not.”

“I’m not goin’ out in that!”

“I thought you liked fresh snow.” Ryo can’t help but grin.

“Not at the end of frickin’ April!”

The grin becomes a chuckle. “So now it’s only allowed to snow at a time you consider acceptable?”

“Yeah! There should be a law against unauthorised snow!” Now Dee’s grinning too.

“Why stop there? Enforce zoning laws. Snow can fall in parks, backyards, and on rooftops, but not on roads, sidewalks, or parking lots.”

“Works for me. There’d be a lot less accidents that way. While we’re at it, no fog permitted at street level. It’s a drivin’ hazard, needs to be banned.”

“Rainfall restricted to between midnight and three a.m., nightly, within the city limits,” Ryo counters.

“Everyone leavin’ the clubs will get soaked,” Dee points out.

“Might cool a few tempers.”

“Don’t know about that.” Dee glances towards the window, where the snow is now swirling thickly, a veritable blizzard. “This won’t do much for people’s tempers. The only ones gonna be happy ‘bout this snowstorm are the schoolkids.”

“You’ll change your mind if there’s still snow out there by the end of shift. You’ll be trying to start a snowball fight.”

“That’s what you think. End of shift, all I’ll wanna do is go home where it’s warm.”

Ryo shrugs. “We’ll see.”
