Tosh was used to being unlucky in love, but that didn’t make it hurt any less. Ever since her first boyfriend when she’d still been in school, who hadn’t wanted anyone to know about them because she wasn’t one of the cool kids, she’d had one failed relationship after another.
Finding herself jailed for treason and then conscripted into Torchwood had only made things worse. She’d developed an unrequited crush on Owen, had been tricked and used by a homicidal alien woman, and had a one day a year sort of relationship with a time-displaced soldier she’d had to send to his death.
Sometimes she wondered why she still bothered trying. She couldn’t tell anyone about her job, and opportunities for a relationship inside Torchwood were non-existent. Jack and Ianto had each other, Gwen had Rhys, and Owen wasn’t interested.
She’d tried online dating sites, which was how she’d found her last boyfriend, but he’d turned out to have a wife and three kids he’d never mentioned.
“I might as well accept it,” she told Ianto over a glass of wine. “I’ll always be alone.”
“Don’t give up hope, Tosh. There’s someone special out there looking for someone like you.”
