Arriving home from playing Santa at the orphanage, Dee stared around the kitchen in bewilderment, taking in the piles of veggies waiting to be peeled, the pots and pans and mixing bowls, and his lover in the middle of it all, busily preparing the annual Christmas feast. Ryo smiled brightly at him.
“Everything go alright?”
“Yeah,” Dee replied vaguely. “It was good. Uh, how many people did ya say we’re havin’ over for dinner?”
“Just Bikky, Carol, and Carol’s aunt. And us, of course. Why?” Ryo cast his gaze over the array of foodstuffs, suddenly worried. “Is this not enough?”
“More than enough, babe,” Dee hurriedly assured his partner. “Looks like you’re plannin’ on feedin’ everyone in the buildin’!”
Reassured, Ryo’s smile returned. “Don’t be silly, Dee! The turkey would never stretch that far.” He finished laying rashers of bacon across the back of the massive bird, which he’d already stuffed, then went to the sink to wash his hands, glancing at the oven as he passed. It was almost hot enough.
“I just hope the table doesn’t collapse under the weight.”
Ryo laughed. “It’ll be fine. The way you talk, anyone would think I’d never cooked Christmas dinner before.”
