Even in a city as big as New York, church bells still chimed out at midnight, marking the start of Christmas Day. Considering how many churches there were, few places existed within the city limits, and even in the immediate surrounding area, where they couldn’t be heard. Now they were ringing out, loud and clear on the still winter air.

Dee cocked his head, listening, the sound slightly muffled by the woollen beanie pulled well down over his ears, and the collar of his coat, pulled up high. “Midnight already, and here we are, still out when we should be tucked up in bed at home, waitin’ for Santa to come.”

Beside him, Ryo laughed. “You’re a bit too old to believe in Santa, aren’t you?” he teased.

“Nah, I’m still a kid at heart.”

“That I already knew.” Ryo squeezed his lover’s hand. “Anyway, you’re the one who wanted to go out tonight.”

“It’s been fun though, hasn’t it? Lookin’ at all the decorations, skatin’ at Rockefeller Center, stoppin’ for a late dinner, eatin’ too much, then takin’ a walk to work off all the extra calories.”

“It has. I almost don’t want to go home,” Ryo admitted.

“We don’t have to; we can stay out all night if you want.”

“As tempting as that sounds, it’s getting colder, and I’d rather not freeze. Besides, didn’t you say something about being tucked up warm in bed?”

“I did.”

“Then maybe that’s where we should be.”

“I’ll hail a cab.”
