“Nothin’ better than bein’ home for Christmas,” Dee said, snaking an arm around Ryo’s waist and pulling his lover down to sit beside him on the sofa. “Especially after we had to work last year.”
“Someone has to do it,” Ryo pointed out, leaning against his partner, and looking at the Christmas tree, its lights sparkling prettily.
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean it always has to be us! Just ‘cause neither of us has kids doesn’t mean we should always haveta sacrifice our Christmas plans so someone else can have the Eve at home.”
“I have a kid.” Ryo twisted to look up at Dee.
“Yeah, but he’s grown up and stayin’ at his girlfriend’s place this year.”
“They’ll both be over tomorrow to celebrate with us, which means I should be getting started on the dinner preparations. The more I can get done tonight, the less there’ll be to do in the morning.”
“It can wait a little while though, can’t it? We’ve been runnin’ around all day, cleanin’, wrappin’ gifts, finishin’ the decorations… We deserve a few minutes’ rest.”
“I guess. I just don’t want to leave everything until the last minute.”
Dee laughed. “Hate to tell ya this, babe, but from where I’m sittin’, looks like we already left everything to the last minute this year.”
Ryo sighed. “Not intentionally. I had everything planned, figured there was plenty of time, and now there’s not!”
“I know what ya mean. December must’ve speeded up when we weren’t lookin’.”
