A/N: Triple drabble.
December first, and Dee arrived at work to find a small chocolate Santa sitting on his blotter. His immediate thought, since nobody else had one, was that JJ had left it; his blue-haired colleague’s unrequited crush was something Dee had been dealing with, unsuccessfully, ever since the other man had been assigned to the two-seven. But JJ hadn’t been at work the previous day, and didn’t have a scheduled shift today either, so who…?
Flicking his gaze to his lover, sitting across from him, Dee caught the faintest hint of a grin, gone as quickly as it had appeared. Aha, so this was Ryo’s doing, was it? Dee quickly unwrapped the small treat and ate it, smirking to himself. Game on!
The next morning, Dee arrived at work early, and when no one was looking, left a small, foil-wrapped chocolate snowman on Ryo’s desk. He hid his grin as he saw the way his lover’s eyes lit up as he took his seat and unwrapped the snowman.
The third morning, Dee arrived early again, but found Ryo already there, and a chocolate Christmas bauble hanging from the handle of one of his desk drawers. Dee had to wait until Ryo went to the bathroom to surreptitiously slip his own offering under his partner’s paperwork.
And that was the way it went throughout December; every workday, another colorful novelty chocolate showed up somewhere on or around each of the detectives’ desks. In drawers, tucked inside gloves or pockets, hanging from chairs, leaning against penholders, under file folders…
They never said anything to each other about the gifts; words weren’t needed, not when their eyes could meet over their desks in full knowledge of who was responsible. It made going to work on cold, grey days fun. Best holiday gift exchange ever!
