A/N: Double drabble.
It could be eerie in the Hub at night, when the team had already gone to their respective homes, and Jack was alone with nothing but memories and his record collection to distract him from the silence. It was one of the reasons he so often spent his nights on a rooftop somewhere, looking out at the lights of the city spread below him, listening to the sounds of traffic, the shouts and laughter of people leaving the clubs and bars. Knowing there were living people close by made him feel less lonely.
Sometimes, though, going out felt like too much of an effort, or the weather was too cold and wet for a rooftop vigil. Sometimes too, the memories were so strong that there was no escaping them. Leaving the Hub wouldn’t keep them from haunting him.
How many lives had been cut short through working for Torchwood? He could name at least a hundred, colleagues, friends, some even lovers. All of them gone now, in body if not in spirit.
The Hub was full of ghosts, and maybe that was Jack’s fault. By remembering them, he prevented them from moving on. They were trapped here against their will.
