“How come the moon always looks bigger out here than it does in the city?” Dee wondered, lying on his back, staring up at the night sky. The campfire was hardly more than embers now, but it didn’t matter because it was late summer and pleasantly warm.
“No idea,” Ryo murmured. “I could look it up on the internet when we get home if you really want to know.”
“Nah, doesn’t matter.” Dee gazed at the full moon, tinged with orange, as it rose above the trees. “It’s beautiful though. Never really get the chance to appreciate it when we’re home.”
“Probably because we’re always too busy with work during the full moon.”
“Yeah. Nothin’ like it to bring all the crazies outta the woodwork. Good thing it doesn’t have the same effect on us.”
Ryo laughed. “That’s down to all the screening done on anyone interested in becoming a cop.”
“No lunatics allowed; only the psychologically stable need apply,” Dee agreed. Somewhere in the distance, something howled. “Uh…”
“Probably just a dog. There aren’t any wolves or coyotes around here.”
“How about werewolves?”
“No such thing, Dee.”
“Hope you’re right. If I wake up all hairy, I’m blamin’ you.”
