The older Buffy gets, the more confusing her life seems to become. Is it just her or does everyone feel that way? She’d ask her friends, but she’s not sure she wants to know. It’s just that it’s only been a few months since she came home to Sunnydale, her mom, and her friends. After all the uncertainty, going back to school and catching up on her classes, getting back into the swing of slaying, she was finally starting to feel settled again, and now this!
She was expecting to flunk the SATs, but she hasn’t. What’s the opposite of flunk? Because she’s done that, scored so high that everyone around her is focused on the future she wasn’t sure she’d even have, starting with her going to college, which… Okay, college might be good, but everyone from Cordelia to her mom, and even Giles, is telling her to leave Sunnydale, go to college somewhere else, like she’s barely been home five minutes and now they all want her to go away again!
She knows they mean well, with the probable exception of Cordelia; they want what’s best for her, want her to make the most of her opportunities because education is important. Even Giles thinks it would be okay for her to put slaying aside for a while, especially since there’s another slayer in town who could take over.
But she’s not sure she wants to leave again. She already did that once, and okay, the circumstances were totally different, but still… it’s a big, scary world out there, and for all its faults, Sunnydale is home. She knows every street, every park, every cemetery; it all feels comfortingly familiar, and in a weird way, safe.
Her whole world’s been upended again; she has no idea what to do.
