Sprawled on warm grass, Dee and Ryo were trying, with little success, to make sense of a village cricket game.
“All I can say,” Dee mused, after an hour or so, “is that it’s nothin’ like baseball. I mean yeah, in both games one team bowls while the other bats, and there’s some runnin’ involved, but beyond that I don’t think I know any more ‘bout the game than I did when we sat down.”
“I know what you mean,” Ryo agreed. “I’m sure there must be rules, but I don’t have a clue what they are. Still, it’s a relaxing way to spend a hot, sunny afternoon.”
“You mean playin’ or watchin’?”
“Watching.” Ryo glanced away from the game to grin at his lover. “It may not be fast paced, but the players still look a lot hotter than we are.”
“Yeah, I wouldn’t wanna trade places, not even if I knew how to play. It’s way too hot for makin’ that kinda effort.”
“They look like they’re enjoying themselves though.”
“Which just goes to prove Brits are weird.”
“I’m sure they feel the same way about Americans.”
“No matter how hard we try, we’ll never understand each other.”
