“I’m startin’ to think you must be part mountain goat,” Dee commented breathlessly as he scrambled up the steep slope behind his lover. “You make this look easy, an’ it’s not.”
Ryo stopped where some rocks jutted out at the side of the trail, waiting for his partner to catch up with him. “I’ve just had more practice at this than you. Maybe I should’ve picked an easier trail though.”
Reaching him, Dee leaned gratefully against the outcrop, catching his breath. “No, it’s fine, I love a challenge.” He unslung his backpack and got a bottle of water out, drinking slowly as he cooled off a bit and relaxed. “’Sides, ya said the views are to die for. I just didn’t think ya meant that literally.”
“Sorry. I haven’t been up here for a few years, so I’d forgotten how steep some of the trails are. I should’ve checked, I just really wanted to show you this place.”
“And I wanna see it, but could we maybe climb a bit slower? I’d kinda like to get to the top with enough energy left to appreciate the views.”
“We can do that.” Ryo nodded.
“At least goin’ down should be easier.”
