Leather jackets and sportscoats were all very well spring through fall, but they left a guy’s ass out in the cold come winter, and no man with an ounce of sense wanted to risk freezing his nuts off. That was why a good winter coat was essential, and well worth paying a little extra for.
Trouble was, by the time the cold weather rolled around, the clothing stores were full of spring and summer wear. Unless you wanted to go hunting through thrift stores and Goodwill, which Dee sometimes did anyway, because you never knew what someone else might toss out.
Ryo was mostly still wearing the same fuzzy brown duffle coat he’d had for the last three years, saying there was nothing wrong with it, and anyway, he liked the hood because it kept rain from dripping down the back of his neck. He had another, smarter coat, but he kept that for when he was wearing a suit.
Dee’s overcoat, however, was showing its age, looking threadbare in places, and no longer keeping out the cold the way it used to. He needed a new one, so here he was, trying on coats in the middle of summer. The absurdity might have been amusing in the city wasn’t currently sweltering through a heatwave.
Obviously conditions weren’t ideal, Dee would have preferred to leave his coat shopping until the weather was cooler, but there was a three-day sale on, everything half-price or less. He was damned if he was going to miss an opportunity to save a serious amount of money.
He was making sure the coats he tried on were roomy enough to accommodate the extra layers he’d be wearing in winter, but nothing was right, until…
Black wool, calf-length, well-cut… Perfect! He could hardly wait for winter!
