“Our daughter is a genius!” Jack announced the moment Ianto let himself into their flat, before he even had a chance to hang his coat up and take off his shoes.
“Daddy!” six-year-old Meriel protested. “Don’t say that!”
Jack looked down at his little girl in surprise. “Whyever not? Don’t you want your Taddy to know how clever you are?”
“Taddy already knows,” Ianto said, coming down the steps into the living room. “What brilliantly clever thing has our Princess done today?” He scooped Meriel up for a hug and a kiss before setting her back on her feet and collapsing onto the sofa, patting the seat beside him. Meriel scrambled up to snuggle against his side while Jack squeezed in the other side, not wanting to be left out. Ianto gave him a kiss too.
“I got a gold star in school,” Meriel said with a big grin.
“Did you now? That’s very good indeed!” Ianto planted a kiss on the top of her head. “Now, if you’re so very clever that you’re getting gold stars, why don’t you want Daddy calling you a genius?”
“Because I’m only six. It’ll be years before I’m as clever as Auntie Tosh!”
