A/N: Triple drabble.
Arriving home from school, Bikky shut the door behind him and stopped dead. He’d already known Dee was there, he’d seen the Charger parked outside. That usually meant he risked catching his dad and his nemesis smooching, or making out, but this time the atmosphere in the apartment felt tense and uncomfortable.
Dee was sprawled untidily on the sofa, nose buried in the evening paper, and Ryo was in the kitchen, fixing dinner. From all the banging and clattering going on, it was obvious he wasn’t in a good mood.
Bikky weighed his options. He could go yell at Dee, maybe get in a few good kicks, because whatever was going on had to be his fault, or he could ignore Dee and go help Ryo, maybe keep him from breaking anything important.
As tempting as it was to beat Dee to a pulp, Bikky decided starting something would only annoy Ryo further, so he dropped his schoolbag on the floor, kicked his shoes off, and wandered into the kitchen.
“Hey, Ryo. Is everything okay?”
Ryo whirled around, startled. “Bikky! When did you get home? I didn’t hear you come in.”
“Couple of minutes ago.” Bikky went to the refrigerator and helped himself to a glass of milk, draining half of it in a couple of gulps. “What did the asshole do this time?”
“We had a bit of an argument, that’s all. It happens.” Ryo shrugged. “We’ll sort it out later, we just need a bit of space to cool off, but right now we’re not talking to each other.”
“So how come he’s still here?”
“Why wouldn’t he be? I’m mad at him, but I don’t hate him, and anyway, the fight wasn’t entirely his fault. We’re just not ready to make up yet.”
“I’ll never understand adults.”
