Spring! The weather was finally warming up after a long, particularly cold and wet winter, the trees were blossoming, birds singing overhead, and everywhere he looked flower buds were swelling, ready to burst into bright, fragrant blooms! Even the city air smelled fresher than usual, although it probably wasn’t.
Dee had started taking his allergy meds a couple of weeks ago, at Ryo’s prompting, so he wasn’t even suffering from his usual seasonal sniffles. Instead he felt energised, alive, full of the joys of… well, spring. There was even a distinct spring in his step.
Maybe that was why the season was called spring, because it made everyone feel bouncy. He grinned to himself, striding along the street from the subway station, breaking into a run to cross the precinct’s small forecourt and bounding up the steps, pausing at the top to take one more deep breath of spring air before pushing the door open.
As he made his way up the stairs to the small office he and Ryo shared, he found himself hoping they wouldn’t have to be indoors much today. He’d far rather be out on the streets, canvassing for witnesses, following leads, chasing suspects… He didn’t care what, as long as he could avoid being stuck at his desk all day. He had far too much energy for that.
Ryo looked up from his desk as Dee entered. “You’re in a good mood this morning.”
It was only then that Dee realised he was whistling a catchy tune he’d heard somewhere.
“Can’t help myself, have you seen the weather? Sunshine, blue skies… it’s glorious!”
“How many cups of coffee have you had?”
“Only one, I swear! Can’t I just be happy?”
“On a workday? Not usually.”
“Well I am today, so don’t go ruinin’ my mood.”
The End
