Coming up from the file room and all but throwing himself into his chair, Dee slammed a manilla folder onto his desk, growling under his breath as he reached for the phone directory.
“What’s up?” Ryo took off his reading glasses and frowned at his partner. Dee had been in a perfectly good mood when he’d gone to fetch the files pertaining to a cold case that bore similarities to the one that had just been dumped in their laps, but now he looked like he wanted to murder someone.
“Need the number for pest control,” Dee ground out.
“We’ve got a problem downstairs?” It didn’t seem very likely. The station house was old, but was regularly checked for anything that might cause problems, such as rodents or cockroaches.
Dee slammed the phonebook down on top of his folder. “I can’t go anywhere or do anythin’ these days without gettin’ attacked by the most annoyin’ bug in existence. It needs to be exterminated.”
Ryo hid a smile behind his computer screen. “You’re talking about JJ.”
“Who else?” Dee slumped back in his seat, raking one hand through his hair. “On second thoughts, not sure pest control will cut it. Maybe I should get on the dark web and find me a hired assassin instead.”
“Murder for hire is kind of illegal though,” Ryo pointed out. “I’d have to arrest you.”
“Now there’s a thought! I could get myself thrown in jail; my stalker would never get to me there.”
“That would be a bit extreme, don’t you think?”
“You don’t know what it’s like! JJ followed me into the file room, came up behind me and started gropin’ me! All I could do was grab a file and make my escape!”
“Where is he now?”
“I locked him in there.”
