Ryo shifted restlessly, turning onto his left side, then changing his mind and rolling over again. It was no use; no matter what he tried he couldn’t get comfortable.
Beside him, Dee stirred, coming awake. “Ryo? You okay, babe?”
“Fine. Go back to sleep, Dee; one of us should get some rest, and it’s obviously not going to be me. I should probably just get up. Sorry I disturbed you.”
“No need to apologise, dope. You want another painkiller?”
“Can’t, I already reached the limit of what I’m allowed. No more for another…” He checked the clock on the nightstand and sighed. “Three hours. Besides, I’m not really in pain, just can’t get comfortable. It’s like my bed’s suddenly developed lumps I never noticed before.”
“That’s just your bruises makin’ themselves felt. Not surprisin’ after the tumble you took.”
“Don’t remind me.” They’d been chasing a suspect and Ryo had slipped on a patch of ice at the top of some steps. He’d nabbed the fugitive on his way past, both of them landing in a heap at the bottom, bruised but otherwise okay.
“C’mere.” Dee wrapped his arms around his lover. “Close your eyes. Stop thinkin’ and just relax.”
