“About last night,” Ryo said hesitantly the following morning, after getting Bikky off to school.
“Yeah, guess I should apologise for hittin’ ya like that. Wasn’t my finest moment; I just reacted, figured it would be the quickest, most effective way of bringin’ ya to your senses.”
“It worked.” Ryo sighed heavily, looking everywhere but at his partner.
“Doesn’t mean it was the right thing to do.” Dee felt guilty over the backhanded slap, and vaguely dirty, not just for what he’d done but because he’d been so close to accepting what Ryo had offered, despite knowing his partner wasn’t thinking straight. “Can we just pretend my evil twin paid an unexpected visit, but he’s gone now?”
“There’s a lot of that going around, because that wasn’t really me last night either.” Ryo managed a weak smile.
“No, it wasn’t.” Something occurred to Dee then. “Y’know, if that wasn’t you last night, and it wasn’t me, guess that means neither of us did anythin’ we should feel bad about so there’s no need for either of us to apologise.”
“You mean like… it never happened?” Ryo’s eyes finally met Dee’s.
“Exactly. Let’s just forget about it.”
“I can do that.”
