In Ryo’s opinion, saying Dee was bold would have been the understatement of the decade. From the moment they’d met, his new work partner, the man assigned to show him the ropes in his new position as a detective, had displayed a total lack of respect for Ryo’s personal space.
It had been a little intimidating, the way Dee had gotten right up in his face, staring into his eyes from a few inches away, and Ryo had tried to put more distance between them, but Dee clearly hadn’t gotten the message. He seemed determined to ignore Ryo’s boundaries, and short of physically shoving the man away from him, Ryo wasn’t sure what he could do.
Not that the shoving was proving particularly effective. It might get Dee to back off briefly, but the respite never lasted. Before Ryo knew it, Dee would be right there again, grinning as if he’d scored some kind of victory. He almost seemed to relish Ryo’s discomfort.
And as if ignoring boundaries hadn’t been bad enough, Dee had just taken things to another level, being audacious enough to kiss him! Not a brief, friendly peck either; it had been a full-on lip-lock, followed by a hug. Ryo was left reeling from the shock, unable to find his voice.
As for Dee, he acted like it was a totally normal thing to do, a casual ‘Thanks for saving my life’, but Ryo didn’t see it that way at all. He’d kissed and been kissed before, that wasn’t the issue. It was more a case of them both being guys, in a public place, even though nobody had been there to see. Dee hadn’t even asked permission, just grabbed him and planted one on him!
How could Ryo enforce boundaries against someone who didn’t have any?
