A/N: Double drabble and a half, 250 words.
Ryo couldn’t help smiling. For all that Dee professed not to like dogs, preferring cats for their independent and less excitable natures, he’d thrown himself into caring for Dick the dachshund like a man on a mission. He might leave the feeding to Ryo, perhaps aware that if he fed the dog himself he wouldn’t be able to resist giving him more than was recommended, but everything else…
Dee would grumble about getting up early to walk Dick, and having to take the dog out in wind, and rain, and snow, but although he was quite happy for Ryo to accompany them, he still saw exercising their temporary houseguest as his own responsibility.
He also played with the pup, taught him tricks, cleaned up after him, and groomed him thoroughly every day, right down to cleaning his paws when they arrived home from a walk. He claimed he didn’t want the dog tracking dirt across Ryo’s clean floors, but Ryo knew his partner mostly wanted to make sure Dick hadn’t stepped on broken glass, or gotten a sharp thorn in his tender pads.
Now, Dee was sitting on the floor, half the dog in his lap, wielding the grooming brush with a vigour that had Dick looking like he was in doggy heaven. One hind leg was waving madly, and the dog let out little grunts of pleasure as Dee brushed his belly.
“I think I’m beginning to envy that dog,” Ryo joked.
Dee winked. “You’ll get your turn later.”
