To switch back on mine what I did was go to thing that is supposed to be a home page and in the top right there were a couple of icons, the one furthest right Gave me two options, send feed back (I told them the new design was awful) and most importantly the switch back to old style.
I can't even FIND any icons on my home page, and it won't let me access my own profile page either. The first thing I knew about any of this was when LJ stopped working while I was trying to post, then when I got it back my update page had changed beyond recognition.
How do I find this so-called 'home page' with the icons, because damned if I can find anything that looks like what you're describing!
If was. www.livejournal.com/browse On the top right there's a speech bubble with a question mark in it, that opens the thing with the feed back/switch back
Cannot find that to restore it what I had before but then I have a Plus Account. All I know is that this is a stupid ass move on their part! I had enough trouble navigating before; this will seriously be a bad case of lost in space! NO pun intended!!
go to the blue bar across the top, towards the right hand end there should be a little cloud with a question mark in it OR possibly a blank blue square. If you click it you should get taken to a page where you have the option to leave feedback and below that an option to change back to the old style. Just keep clicking places on the blue bar because even if you can't see it (and it's NOT visible for a lot of people) I'm told it IS there, it's just maybe a case of trying until you click on the right spot.
For whatever reason, Safari wasn't showing me a cloud or blank square. There was just that annoying circle and it wasn't doing squat last night. I ripped into them last night, too, about this through their feedback and I guess they're trying to merge in all the different browsers. Just leave the damn thing alone. I spend far too much time at work on the computer and then at home so my eyes are really being affected.
I spend most of the day on my computer, so I know the havoc it can play with eyes. Such a pain! Glad you're back to the old style too. I just don't get why LJ refuses to listen to what its long-time users want and just makes these changes against people's wishes and without our consent. It's bad business practice. I don't adapt well to change at the best of times without adding in migraine inducing visuals. >=[
At some point over the summer, I will have my eyes checked; I so overdue but LJ is becoming a pain with these changes. I'm still trying to get the Cyrillic links turned off! I can take some change but not when it hits me by surprise!
Nothing wrong with being set in one's ways; I'm a creature of consistency. My family knows my hobbies or interests and my son knows where to find me if he knows I'm doing some form of sewing somewhere.
Apparently because my mother has a rare form of glaucoma, I've been advised to keep a check on my eyes. Haven't been able to do so financially because NY temp work was seriously affected by that 9/11 debacle. It's only because I requested termination of my 3rd assignment at the WTC that I avoided what happened. People don't realize that so many businesses were affected by that destruction; many law firms lost a giant client base temporarily. I was lucky that the firm I worked for kept me going even 2 days a week for a long time. I'll set up an appointment in the next 2 weeks; that damn blurriness is affecting my beading as well as typing.
It's important to take care of your eyes, even though it can be pricy. It's very high priority for me.
So much was affected by 9/11 that people don't consider. The WTC was an immense and very busy building, probably part of why it was targeted. I still clearly remember standing in mum's bedroom watching it on the news, I could barely believe what I was seeing.
I don't blame you for wanting out of New York. I don't like being up high anyway and I have a fear of elevators, I hate being in them ever since I got stuck between floors, and that was only for like 10 minutes. I could never cope with a skyscraper even without the reasons you have. People who were directly involved in any way are surely still suffering various kinds of PTSD, it's not at all surprising.

I get mine checked every year, and every year I have to pay out for new glasses. I've worn glasses since I was 13.
