Even as a child, Ianto had loved windy weather. It made him feel alive, and if the wind blew strong enough, he could almost imagine that by spreading his arms out, he might take to the skies like a bird on the wing.
Back then, the closest he ever got to living that dream was by flying a kite, always half hoping that a really strong gust might snatch him right off his feet and he’d go soaring away over the rooftops, holding to his kite string.
Nowadays, he no longer had to imagine what it was like to fly. When the wind gusted about him, he could hurry indoors, strip out of his clothes, change form, and experience the joys of flight first-hand.
He did sometimes wish he could share the experience with Jack, but as Jack couldn’t get off the ground under his own power that was out of the question. Flying alongside a plane would be too dangerous.
High in the sky above Bute Park, Ianto glided on the air currents, staring down at the tiny figure far below. Poor Jack: if anyone deserved the freedom of flight it was him. Perhaps someday they’d find a way.
